Philippine police have detained one person following a shootout inside the Senate building during an apparent attempt to arrest Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
Dela Rosa, who served as police chief under former President Rodrigo Duterte and oversaw a drug war that killed more than 30,000 Filipinos, had taken refuge in the Senate for three days before escaping.
Journalists were caught in the crossfire as armed security forces exchanged gunfire in what is being described as the most violent scene in the Senate's recent history.
Al Jazeera's Jamela Alindogan reports from Manila, Philippines.
