EU says Meta is failing to keep underage users off Facebook and Instagram
The European Union says Meta is failing to keep underage users from accessing Facebook and Instagram.
The EU's executive branch said Wednesday that Meta lacks effective measures to prevent children younger than 13 from signing up.
The issue isn't just access; the EU also criticizes Meta for not assessing risks of age-inappropriate content.
The Digital Services Act allows for fines of up to 6% of global revenue for tech companies that fail to comply.
Henna Virkkunen from the European Commission says Meta is doing little to prevent underage access, despite the company's own terms stating the platforms are not for children younger than 13.
