Former Conservative minister and Reform UK figure Ann Widdecombe has been found dead inside her Devon home aged 78, with police launching a murder investigation and arresting a 26-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Widdecombe was found at her home in Haytor on Dartmoor after suffering serious injuries.

Police said they remain open-minded about the circumstances surrounding Ann Widdecombe's death and currently have no information indicating the case was politically motivated or linked to terrorism.

The suspect remains in custody as detectives continue their investigation into the death of the former MP.

Widdecombe served as a Conservative MP for more than two decades before later joining the Brexit Party and Reform UK. She was also a prominent television personality, including an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing, and remained a highly recognisable figure in British politics.
