U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday that the U.S. blockade on Iran is going global, adding Tehran had a chance to make a "good deal" with Washington.
"Our blockade is growing and going global," Hegseth told reporters. "Our Navy is enforcing this blockade without hesitation or apology."
Thirty-four ships had been turned around from the Strait of Hormuz by the U.S. Navy so far, he said.
He also said the U.S. is open to "a serious European effort" to assist in ending the standoff.
"We would welcome that," Hegseth said. "We would welcome a serious European effort to do something about this Strait and this passage, considering it's their energy capabilities that are most at stake."
He said the U.S. was "not anxious" for a deal with Iran, and repeated Trump's previous comments of having "all the time in the world."
