Two men on trial following the death of Preston Davey have been found guilty of all charges.

Following two days of deliberations at Preston Crown Court Jamie Varley, aged 37, has been found guilty of murder, sexual assault of a child under 13; inflicting grievous bodily harm; five counts of child cruelty; and making, taking and distributing indecent images.

His partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, aged 32 has been found guilty allowing the death of a child; two counts of child cruelty; and sexual assault of a child under 13..

Preston, who was known as Elijah by the defendants, was unresponsive when he was carried into Blackpool Victoria Hospital on July 27, 2023.

Medics worked on him for almost an hour but at 7.20pm said there was no more they could do and he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem found 40 separate internal and external injuries to his body, which the prosecution said were non-accidental and signs the 13-month-old was sexually abused in the hours before he died.

The judge, Mr Justice Turner, will set a date for the men to be sentenced.

There will be victim statements from Preston’s birth family and foster carers.
