Romania’s pro-European coalition has collapsed after lawmakers voted in favor of a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
The vote took place Tuesday, less than a year after the coalition was formed.
The Social Democratic Party and the nationalist opposition Alliance for the Unity of Romanians submitted the motion.
Bolojan’s National Liberal Party and its partners abstained.
Romania has faced instability since a presidential election was annulled in December 2024.
The country struggles with a high budget deficit, inflation, and a recession.
Experts say the crisis may lead to a stalemate, with no clear majority to form a new government.
