WHO warns Ebola spread could eclipse worst outbreak in history

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday that the rate of infection of the Ebola virus suggests there is community transmission and warns that without more public health measures, it could spread to new areas.

“People here in the camp do not want to believe the disease exists, so I am explaining to them that it is real and they must protect themselves from Ebola,” said Jean Marie Dzina Lipe, a secretary of a displaced persons camp.

The head of the Africa Centre for Disease Control warned the current spread could eclipse the worst Ebola outbreak.

However, as Nathaniel Dove reports, international partners like the UN, U.S. and the Gates Foundation, have promised $910 million in total to fight Ebola, but the Africa CDC says the DRC has received less than 10 per cent of that.
