US, Iran trade strikes as Hormuz standoff tests fragile ceasefire

The United States says it has carried out what it calls defensive strikes against Iranian military targets.

It's the second US strike this week, despite a ceasefire.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) says it shot down four attack drones that posed a threat near the Strait of Hormuz.
Details of the strikes emerged after a cabinet meeting held by President Donald Trump late on Wednesday.
He said there is still work to be done on reaching a deal with Iran but he also stressed that the Strait of Hormuz will be open to everyone, and that no country will control the waterway.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) says that, in response, it has targeted the US airbase from which the attack near Bandar Abbas was launched.
