Trump's Turnberry made to wait for British Open return as Royal Lytham gets 2028 edition
The British Open will return to Royal Lytham & St. Annes in 2028 to end the northwest English venue's 16-year wait to host golf’s oldest major again.
It will mark the 12th time that the Open Championship has been held there since its debut in 1926 when Bobby Jones won.
Ernie Els lifted the claret jug the last time it was staged at Royal Lytham, in 2012, after a shocking final-round collapse by Adam Scott.
The wait goes on for President Donald Trump’s Turnberry course and Muirfield to host the Open.
