Open Championship returns to Lytham

The R&A has confirmed that Royal Lytham & St Annes will host the 157th Open Championship in 2028, marking the first time the major has visited the Lancashire links since 2012.

The selection ends years of speculation regarding the venue's future in the rotation and comes amid continued pressure to return the tournament to Donald Trump's Turnberry course.

R&A chief executive Mark Darbon emphasized that Lytham remains a world-class test of golf and a fan favorite.

Additionally, Darbon warned that players guilty of on-course misconduct at future Opens could face severe penalties, including two-shot deductions.
