Xi and Putin hail 'all-time high' ties as leaders sign 40 agreements

President Xi Jinping has welcomed Vladimir Putin to Beijing with full state honours, just days after hosting US President Donald Trump.

The two leaders oversaw the signing of 40 agreements covering energy, transport and space exploration, with Putin saying bilateral trade reached $240 billion in 2025.

Xi described relations as being at an "all-time high", whilst Putin pledged continued energy supplies to China.

The leaders issued a joint statement calling for an end to the war in Iran and criticising Japan's "rearmament", but made no mention of the war in Ukraine.
