Residents in Fort-Coulonge, Que. are preparing for flooding after a state of emergency was declared due to rising water levels along the Ottawa River.

Municipal officials say sandbags and protective barriers are being put in place as water levels continue to climb during the spring freshet.

Authorities are urging residents to take precautions and prepare for possible worsening conditions.

The region is among several communities in western Quebec and eastern Ontario facing flood risks driven by snowmelt and recent weather patterns.
