Ghana's parliament passes bill to impose prison terms for promoting LGBTQ activity
Ghana’s parliament has passed a bill imposing up to 10-year prison terms for promoting LGBTQ activities.
The bill, expected to be signed by President John Dramani Mahama, also includes three-year terms for engaging in LGBTQ acts.
Religious groups support the legislation, while human rights advocates condemn it.
The bill bans promoting or funding LGBTQ activities and imposes a five-year term for keeping a brothel for prohibited activities.
Critics argue it violates constitutional rights and could lead to discrimination.
Human Rights Watch urges Ghana to uphold international protections for equality and nondiscrimination.
