Pope Leo XIV follows in St. Augustine's footsteps in Algeria

Pope Leo XIV is following in the footsteps of his spiritual father, St. Augustine.

He is making a pilgrimage to the archaeological ruins of eastern Algeria where the fifth century titan of early Christianity lived, died and wrote some of the most important works in Western thought.

Leo is flying Tuesday to Annaba, the modern-day Hippo.

It's is a spiritual homecoming for the American pope given its ties to Augustine.

Leo arrived on Monday on the first-ever papal visit, against the backdrop of the U.S.-Israel war in Iran and feud with President Donald over his calls for peace.
