Hantavirus symptoms detected in two Americans; one shows only mild illness
Two Americans evacuated from the MV Hondius have symptoms or tested positive for Andes virus, traveling in biocontainment units to the US. The ship outbreak, linked to eight cases and three deaths, is unusual due to rare person-to-person transmission of the Andes virus strain.
Most passengers are asymptomatic and will undergo 42 days of monitoring.
