Vice President JD Vance said Sunday that face-to-face talks between the U.S. and Iran have ended without an agreement, leaving a fragile two-week ceasefire in doubt.
Vance said the negotiations collapsed over Iran’s refusal to commit to abandoning a path to a nuclear weapon, while Iranian officials blamed the United States for the breakdown of the talks.
“We need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon,” Vance said.
Neither side indicated what would happen after the 14-day ceasefire expires on April 22.
