More charges filed against Naveed Akram in the Bondi festival shooting
An Australian man accused of killing 15 people in a shooting targeting a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach faces 19 more charges.
Naveed Akram was already charged with 59 counts, including murder and committing a terrorist act, from the massacre in December that police say was inspired by the Islamic State group.
Akram was shot and wounded and his father was killed in a gunbattle with police that ended the attack.
The new charges mainly are weapons offenses.
Akram was due to appear in court Wednesday via video link for a procedural hearing.
He hasn’t entered a plea yet.
