Trump: Ceasefire “on life support”

President Trump said Monday that the ceasefire with Iran is “on life support” after rejecting what he called an “unacceptable” Iranian counterproposal to end the war.

“It’s unbelievably weak,” he told reporters in the Oval Office. “I would call it the weakest right now, after reading that piece of garbage they sent us.

I didn’t even finish reading it.

I’m not going to waste my time reading it.”

Tehran reportedly demanded U.S. war reparations, recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and an end to American sanctions.

The first two demands are widely viewed as nonstarters for the U.S., while the third would likely require significant Iranian concessions on its nuclear program.

“Right now, it’s on life support,” the president said of the faltering truce that began in early April and has been threatened by both sides trading fire last week, as well as Iran resuming attacks on its Middle East neighbors.

“I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support.

Where the doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1% chance of living.’”
