Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has laid to rest a diplomatic spat between her government and Spain over the Spanish colonial past.
Relations had been strained since 2019 between Spain and Mexico ever since Sheinbaum's predecessor had demanded that Spain apologize for the treatment of indigenous peoples under the Spanish colonial empire.
Spain at that point refused.
But Spanish King Felipe VI took the unprecedented step in March of acknowledging the abuse by colonists.
Speaking in Barcelona on Saturday, Sheinbaum said “there is no diplomatic crisis, there never was one."
