Texas hospital settles with state, Trump administration over gender care
The Trump administration and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton say the nation's largest children's hospital has agreed to a legal settlement over gender-affirming care for transgender minors that includes a $10 million payment to the state.
Houston-based Texas Children's Hospital said Friday that it accepted the settlement to avoid what it called endless and costly litigation.
Paxton and the U.S. Department of Justice said the agreement requires Texas Children's to set up a clinic to provide free medical care for transgender patients seeking to detransition.
The hospital had announced in 2022 that it would no longer provide hormone therapy to transgender minors.
In 2023, the state banned gender-affirming care for minors.
