At least 160 killed, hundreds missing, as flash flood hits Nepal and Tibet

At least 160 people have been killed and hundreds remain missing after flash floods and a landslide struck near Nepal’s border with China’s Tibet region.
The disaster sent a wall of water and mud through the Gyirong border crossing, sweeping away vehicles, buildings and people.
The floods then surged into central Nepal, destroying or submerging villages along the Bhote Koshi and Tri Shuli rivers.
Authorities say hundreds of tourists are among those missing in the popular Himalayan region.
Rescue teams in Nepal and China are searching through mud and debris for survivors and those still unaccounted for.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an all-out search and stronger early-warning systems to prevent future disasters.
The scale of the destruction is becoming clearer as rescue workers begin a difficult recovery operation.
