Russia pounds Kyiv with missiles and drones overnight

Russia has launched an intense missile and drone attack on Kyiv, shaking buildings across the city center.

Local authorities report at least two people have been killed and 21 people have been wounded.

Air raid sirens blared through the night.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned of Russia's potential use of the hypersonic Oreshnik ballistic missile, citing intelligence from the U.S. and Western partners.

By sunrise Sunday, the attack was ongoing with damage recorded in at least nine districts including residential buildings and schools.

The Oreshnik missile first used in November 2024 is said to be immune to missile defense systems and capable of devastating destruction.
