Have you ever noticed how Walgreens and CVS locations often end up across the street from each other?
Well, Call of Duty and Battlefield have a similar thing going on.
A mere eight days after the upcoming Call of Duty movie https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/call-of-duty-movie-arrives-on-june-30-2028-200033481.html" target="_blank">got an official premiere date, lo and behold: There's news from The Hollywood Reporter that a Battlefield movie is https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/battlefield-movie-michael-b-jordan-chris-mcquarrie-1236574195/" target="_blank">on the way.
The project has some heavy-artillery star power attached. https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/warner-bros-dominates-oscars-with-11-wins-ahead-of-its-acquisition-by-paramount-093916527.html" target="_blank">Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) is slated to produce and possibly star in the film.
Meanwhile, Christopher McQuarrie of Mission Impossible fame is set to write, direct and produce.
Naturally, EA will also produce, as the company tries to cash in on the recent wave of https://www.engadget.com/super-mario-bros-movie-review-fun-safe-romp-135146207.html" target="_blank">Hollywood https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/fallout-season-2-review-viva-new-vegas-140000678.html" target="_blank">video game adaptations that https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/the-last-of-us-season-two-review-more-zombies-and-more-heartbreak-160007479.html" target="_blank">don't suck.
The movie's creators are reportedly meeting with studios and streamers as we speak, with an expected bidding war to commence.
They're said to have met with Apple and Sony on Thursday.
The project's team is reportedly prioritizing a deal that includes a theatrical release.
It's understandable why business types would see the time as right for a Battlefield film adaptation. (And not just because Call of Duty is already doing it.) The latest game in the long-running series, Battlefield 6, was the top-selling game of 2025 โ outselling Call of Duty for the first time.
After selling https://www.engadget.com/gaming/battlefield-6-sold-over-7-million-copies-in-three-days-181826351.html" target="_blank">over 7 million copies in its first three days, it went on to https://wolfsgamingblog.com/2025/12/21/battlefield-6-has-passed-20-million-copies-sold/" target="_blank">surpass an estimated 20 million sales before the end of the year.
Whichever studio pays big bucks for this project will try to ride that wave.
The Call of Duty movie, meanwhile, is scheduled for release on June 30, 2028.
The Paramount project has tapped Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) to co-write the screenplay and produce, with Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) set to direct.
