At least seven people have died in a gang attack on a peaceful town in southern Haiti.
A police station was also set on fire by armed men in the commune of Marigot.
Mayor René Danneau criticized the authorities for not responding quickly enough. “We are asking the prime minister to take all necessary measures,” he told Radiotélévision Caraïbes in an interview.
Gang violence has largely been centered in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and in a rural territory north of it.
Danneau said the victims in the town of Seguin were young men who worked alongside police and gathered information for them to help protect the population.
