Massive Wildfires Force 220,000 Evacuations in France

A fast-moving wildfire in France's Gironde region has scorched an area more than four times the size of Paris, forcing 220,000 people to flee their homes.

The interior minister said the blaze has stopped growing but warns the fight is not over, with a heatwave expected to hit in the next 24 hours.

The European Commission activated its emergency response system, sending firefighting aircraft and helicopters.

Spain also battles wildfires in Ávila province, destroying homes and forcing evacuations.
