Mark Carney wins Canadian majority

The byelections in University-Rosedale, Scarborough Southwest, and Terrebonne were seen as a critical test of Carney's leadership amid regional instability.

With 174 seats in the House of Commons, the Liberals no longer require the support of opposition parties to pass major legislation.

Carney celebrated the win as a victory for Canadian democracy and immediately announced new affordability measures, including a temporary suspension of the federal fuel tax.

The result has left the Conservative opposition under Pierre Poilievre facing questions about their strategic direction.
