China resumes Taiwan travel links

Beijing has unveiled a 10-point plan to restore several suspended links with Taiwan, including travel and trade measures.

The announcement followed a high-level meeting between Chinese officials and Cheng Li-wun, the chairwoman of Taiwan's Kuomintang party.

While the measures aim to facilitate food sales and 'healthy' cultural exchanges, Beijing continues to reject official contact with Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party.

Analysts suggest the outreach is a strategic effort to influence Taiwanese public opinion ahead of future elections.
