Andy Burnham Pitches for PM as Labour Leader

Andy Burnham, the likely next Labour leader and prime minister, delivered a major speech in Manchester outlining a devolution-focused agenda that would shift power away from Whitehall to the regions.

He proposed an outpost of No. 10 in Manchester, more affordable housing and cheaper public transport.

Several senior cabinet ministers, including Steve Reed and Lord Hermer, endorsed his plans, but Burnham must still navigate Labour’s internal divisions and address concerns that his vision lacks concrete funding.

He is expected to take over once Keir Starmer steps down in the coming weeks.
