The Election Commission has carried out mass transfers of police officers in Kolkata following recent political violence as the state prepares for the first phase of voting on April 23.

Over 3.6 crore voters are eligible to participate in the initial stage, but the process is being overshadowed by allegations of electoral manipulation.

Mamata Banerjee claimed that over 250 deaths occurred during the intensive revision exercise, which saw nearly 5.2 crore names deleted across 12 states.

The BJP has countered these claims, urging tribal communities to avenge alleged insults to President Droupadi Murmu.
