Haitian Deportation Protections Extended
The measure extends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) through 2029 for Haitians currently living in the United States.
While the White House has signaled that the president would likely veto the bill if it passes the Senate, the vote reflects significant resistance within the GOP to the administration's immigration policies.
Supporters of the bill cited the deepening humanitarian crisis and gang violence in Haiti as reasons for the extension.
The move was led by Representative Ayanna Pressley, who successfully courted moderate Republican votes.
