Artemis II heads for Moon
The four-person crew, consisting of three Americans and one Canadian, is now on a 10-day trajectory that will take them around the far side of the Moon.
The critical six-minute engine firing accelerated the Orion spacecraft to approximately 25,000 mph, the velocity required to break free of Earth's gravity.
Astronauts reported breathtaking views of the entire globe as they began the historic voyage.
The mission serves as a vital test flight for the Space Launch System rocket and Orion capsule before future lunar landings.
