Japan Tsunami Alert After Earthquake

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an urgent evacuation order for Iwate, Aomori, and Hokkaido prefectures following a significant undersea tremor.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has established a crisis management team to coordinate the national response to the disaster.

While initial waves reached 40cm at some ports, experts warn that subsequent surges could be far more destructive.

The earthquake was strong enough to rattle buildings in Tokyo, hundreds of kilometers from the epicenter.
