Mandelson Security Vetting Scandal

Mandelson Security Vetting Scandal

The UK government has been plunged into turmoil following revelations that Peter Mandelson failed initial security checks by MI6 before his appointment as ambassador to Washington.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer claims he was kept in the dark by senior civil servants, leading to the effective sacking of top diplomat Olly Robbins.

Opposition leaders, including Kemi Badenoch and Stephen Flynn, have called for the Prime Minister's resignation, accusing him of incompetence or dishonesty.

A retired High Court judge has been appointed to review the national security vetting system in the wake of the controversy.
