Rohingya Refugee Death Toll Record
The UNHCR has issued a grim report highlighting the humanitarian crisis facing Rohingya refugees in South Asia.
More than one in seven of the estimated 6,500 people who attempted the crossing last year did not survive the journey.
Most departures originate from overcrowded camps in Bangladesh, where over a million refugees live in squalid conditions.
The agency is calling for urgent regional cooperation to prevent further tragedies and provide safe pathways for those seeking asylum.
