Cherfilus-McCormick Resigns Amid Ethics Probe

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick became the third House member to resign this month as a wave of scandals continues to hit the U.S. Congress.

Her departure came minutes before an ethics panel was set to recommend sanctions for twenty-five violations related to campaign finance and the theft of FEMA funds.

Cherfilus-McCormick criticized the process as unfair, claiming her legal team was denied sufficient time to prepare a defense.

Her resignation leaves a vacancy in Florida's 20th district and complicates the Democratic Party's efforts to maintain its House seats.
