Australia, Japan sign warship deal

Defense ministers from both nations signed the landmark deal aboard a warship in Melbourne, signaling a deepening of security ties in response to regional maritime challenges.

The first three frigates will be built in Japan, with plans for an additional eight vessels to be constructed in Western Australia over the next decade.

This partnership aims to modernize the Australian naval fleet and enhance interoperability between the two Pacific allies.

Officials emphasized that the deal is a cornerstone of their shared commitment to a stable and open Indo-Pacific region.
