Man arrested for phone theft

Metropolitan Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in south London on suspicion of handling stolen goods related to the theft of Morgan McSweeney's mobile phone.

McSweeney, who was serving as Keir Starmer's chief of staff at the time, reported the device was snatched by a cyclist in Westminster in October 2025.

While the suspect is not believed to have been involved in the initial theft, investigators are working to recover the device, which contained sensitive government communications.

The arrest follows months of concern regarding the potential loss of important messages about senior political appointments.
