UK Proscribes Iran's IRGC as Terrorist Group

The United Kingdom government officially announced it is designating Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, a decision which makes expressing support for the group illegal and subjects members to up to 14 years in prison.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the proposed law would give authorities new powers to target organizations linked to hostile foreign states.

Simultaneously, the government accused an Iran-backed proxy group, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, of conducting a series of arson and antisemitic attacks against British Jewish community targets.

The diplomatic move has escalated already tense relations with Tehran while drawing approval from Western allies.
