Mark Carney wins Liberal majority

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has emerged from a year of minority government with a decisive parliamentary majority following a clean sweep of Monday's byelections.

Liberal candidates were victorious in University–Rosedale, Scarborough Southwest, and Terrebonne, bringing the party's seat count to 174.

This shift in power means the Liberals will no longer require opposition support to pass legislation, a significant boost for Carney's 'affordability' agenda.

The results are seen as a major setback for Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives, who saw their support drop across all three contested ridings.
