New UK school food standards

Sir Keir Starmer has unveiled a tough new junk food clampdown for school menus across England.

Under the revised standards, classics such as fish and chips and deep-fried nuggets will be banned, while ice cream, cakes, and doughnuts will be restricted to once a week.

The initiative, backed by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, also mandates more vegetables and whole grains in daily meals.

Health officials hope the move will address the fact that one in three children leave primary school overweight, though the plan has already faced some pushback from those who enjoy traditional school dinners.
