Péter Magyar Topples Viktor Orbán

In a historic election that saw record turnout, Péter Magyar's centre-right Tisza party has secured a supermajority in the Hungarian parliament, unseating the veteran leader Viktor Orbán.

Magyar, a former government insider turned opposition firebrand, campaigned on a platform of anti-corruption, judicial independence, and restoring ties with the European Union.

The defeat of Orbán, a key ally of both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, has been hailed by EU leaders as a victory for democratic values.

Magyar has already called for an early convening of parliament to begin a 'new era' for the country.
