Japan Lifts Lethal Arms Export Ban

Japan Lifts Lethal Arms Export Ban

In a significant break from its post-World War II pacifist stance, the Japanese cabinet has endorsed new rules allowing for the international sale of warships, tanks, and missiles.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's government emphasized that the change will strengthen Japan's defense capabilities and deter potential aggression.

The policy allows exports to 17 countries with which Japan has signed security agreements, including the United States and India.

China has reacted sharply to the announcement, warning against moves toward 'militarism' that could destabilize the Indo-Pacific region.
