Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Resigns
The House Ethics Committee recently found Cherfilus-McCormick guilty of 25 violations, including the illegal use of federal disaster funds for her political campaign.
She currently faces federal charges for allegedly stealing $5 million in COVID-19 relief money.
In a defiant statement, the former congresswoman labeled the ethics process a 'witch hunt' and claimed she was denied due process.
Her resignation marks the third departure of a scandal-plagued House member in less than two weeks, further narrowing the Democratic minority.
