Russia-Ukraine Easter ceasefire
The Kremlin has ordered its troops to observe the temporary pause but remains ready to prevent any 'provocations' from the Ukrainian side.
While the ceasefire is intended as a humanitarian gesture, few officials on either side see it as a path toward a lasting peace.
A major prisoner exchange is also scheduled to take place on Saturday as part of the agreement.
The pause in fighting will allow civilians in war-torn areas to observe the most important festival for Orthodox Christians without the immediate threat of shelling.
However, both nations remain skeptical of the other's long-term intentions as the wider conflict continues to rage.
