Russia-Ukraine Orthodox Easter ceasefire

Russia-Ukraine Orthodox Easter ceasefire

A temporary pause in hostilities is set to begin on Saturday afternoon and last until the end of Orthodox Easter Sunday.

The Kremlin described the move as a humanitarian gesture to allow the faithful to attend services, though it warned that Russian troops remain ready to prevent 'provocations.' Ukrainian leadership has expressed wariness, noting that the ceasefire comes as casualties mount and both sides move toward a potential, but distant, peace deal.

Despite the truce, Russian drone strikes have continued to target energy infrastructure in Odesa and Sumy in the hours leading up to the deadline.
