Mandelson vetting scandal rocks Starmer

The British government has admitted that Lord Peter Mandelson failed a developed security vetting process before his appointment as UK ambassador to Washington.

Despite an unfavorable recommendation from security services, Foreign Office officials reportedly overruled the decision to grant Mandelson the highest level of clearance.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has denied knowing about the failed vetting until this week, leading to accusations from opposition parties that he misled Parliament.

The scandal has already resulted in the effective ousting of Sir Olly Robbins, the Foreign Office's most senior civil servant.
