Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances

Class of compounds

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances are a group of synthetic organofluorine chemical compounds that have multiple fluorine atoms attached to an alkyl chain. The high chemical and thermal stability of PFAS leads to these compounds having long environmental lifetimes, hence the common nickname "forever chemicals".

Also known as...perfluorinated alkylated substances, PFASs, fluorinated surfactants, PFAS, fluorosurfactants, forever chemical, and forever chemicals
