A super typhoon with dangerous winds is taking aim at several remote U.S. islands in the Pacific Ocean.
Super Typhoon Sinlaku is approaching Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, where the mayor says objects are flying “left and right.” It began lashing the U.S. territory of Guam with heavy rain and tropical force gusts hours beforehand.
The storm is on track to barrel over the islands late Tuesday local time.
It’s likely to bring destructive winds along with widespread heavy rain and flooding.
The storm is expected to weaken slightly but should cross near the islands of Tinian and Saipan as a Category 4 or 5 typhoon.
